What mill prices are doing
Producer price indexes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics track what U.S. mills receive for their metal, with a base period set to 100. They show the direction of prices. The price you pay comes from a supplier's quote.

Which sheet to ask for
Carbon steel sheet comes hot-rolled, cold-rolled or coated. ASTM International lists A1011 as its specification for hot-rolled carbon steel sheet and strip, A1008 for cold-rolled carbon steel sheet, and A653 for steel sheet coated with zinc (galvanized) or zinc-iron alloy (galvannealed) by the hot-dip process. Galvanized sheet is also ordered by its coating weight, which the drawing or the specification for the job names.
| Item | Example line |
|---|---|
| Hot-rolled sheet | 20 sheets 10 ga HR A1011 48 x 120 |
| Cold-rolled sheet | 15 sheets 16 ga CR A1008 48 x 96 |
| Galvanized sheet | 25 sheets 18 ga G90 A653 48 x 120 |
| Coil | 1 coil 20 ga G90 A653 48 in wide, about 5,000 lb |
Cutting and forming
Tick Shearing or Bending if the sheet has to be cut or formed, and link to the flat pattern or drawing. For coil, give the inside diameter your equipment takes and the largest coil weight it can handle.
What happens to the request
Shark Metals passes the request to metal suppliers and service centers that can quote it, as the consent line on the form says. A supplier that can quote it contacts you by email, or by phone if you gave a number. Give the ZIP code where the material goes, since a supplier prices delivery from its own yard. Sending a request does not commit you to buy.
Questions
Questions about a request
Who answers a request?
Shark Metals passes each request to metal suppliers and service centers that can quote it. A supplier that can quote it contacts you by email, or by phone if you gave a number.
Does it cost anything to send a request?
No. Sending a request is free and does not oblige you to buy anything. A price and its terms come from the supplier that quotes it.
Can I order a small amount?

Can I attach a drawing?
The form takes no uploads. Paste a link to a drawing, cut list or bar list stored in a shared drive or folder.
What happens to my contact details?
