What mill prices are doing
Producer price indexes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics track what U.S. mills receive for their metal, with a base period set to 100. They show the direction of prices. The price you pay comes from a supplier's quote.

What to give for aluminum
Give the alloy and temper together, such as 6061-T6, then the size and count. ASTM International lists B209 as its specification for aluminum and aluminum-alloy sheet and plate, and B221 as its specification for extruded bars, rods, wire, profiles and tubes. The temper is part of the alloy call-out, and a supplier quotes the alloy and temper you write.
| Item | Example line |
|---|---|
| Sheet | 10 sheets 5052-H32 0.090 x 48 x 120 |
| Plate | 2 pcs 6061-T651 1/2 in 48 x 96 |
| Angle | 20 pcs 6061-T6 2 x 2 x 1/4 at 20 ft |
| Custom extrusion | 500 ft of profile per drawing, 6063-T5, mill finish |
Custom extrusions
A custom profile needs a die. Link to the profile drawing in the drawing field, give the yearly quantity in the notes, and say whether you need anodizing, paint or fabrication on the cut parts.
What happens to the request
Shark Metals passes the request to metal suppliers and service centers that can quote it, as the consent line on the form says. A supplier that can quote it contacts you by email, or by phone if you gave a number. Give the ZIP code where the material goes, since a supplier prices delivery from its own yard. Sending a request does not commit you to buy.
Questions
Questions about a request
Who answers a request?
Shark Metals passes each request to metal suppliers and service centers that can quote it. A supplier that can quote it contacts you by email, or by phone if you gave a number.
Does it cost anything to send a request?
No. Sending a request is free and does not oblige you to buy anything. A price and its terms come from the supplier that quotes it.
Can I order a small amount?
Yes. The form takes requests from a single piece for a repair to repeat orders for a shop. Give the order size you expect, so a supplier can tell whether the order fits what it sells.
Can I attach a drawing?
The form takes no uploads. Paste a link to a drawing, cut list or bar list stored in a shared drive or folder.
